Nate

Hello, my name is Nate Gibbons. I was born on May 16, 1990, in Howell, Michigan, and grew up there. I am the "surprise" baby of my family. My sister is 20 years older than I am, and my brothers are 19 and 15 years older. My parents are Bill and Jane Gibbons.
I graduated from Howell High School in 2008 and then went to Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. I met Julianne in the spring of my sophomore year. The following year I went to Grand Rapids Community College. This past September I went to Minneapolis, Minnesota, to complete my Discipleship Training School with Youth With A Mission. I spent three amazing months repairing and strenthening my relationship with God. Then I went to Peru, specifically to Iquitos, for two months. I came back in the middle of February. During this time I found a love for mission work and spreading God's love to others.
Now I am currently living with my parents in Howell and working for my brother-in-law doing excavation, trying to save money for our upcoming wedding and then for future mission plans.

Julianne

Oh hey!!!
So yes, I am Julianne Kaylynn Lanning....for now :)
I was born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I am the oldest of nine children. My parents are Dan and Kim Lanning.
I graduated from South Christian High School in 2009. I attended Aquinas College for a year (where I met Nate) in 2009-2010. I spent October 2010 through March 2011 completing a Discipleship Training School through Youth With A Mission. I trained for three months in Kona, Hawaii, and traveled to China for two and a half months.
I currently am working, raising money for our upcoming wedding and future mission plans. I also am taking a couple classes at Aquinas College.

Our Story

Okay, so we wanted to tell you all a little bit about how we meet. We meet in March of 2010 at Aquinas College. Nate was a sophomore, and Julianne was a freshman. Julianne had decided to create an intramural soccer team for the spring and was looking for players. She had already convinced Nate's roommate to play. She came up to his table one night at dinner to get his number and asked if anyone else at the table wanted to play. Nate said that he would play goalie. Julianne got his number and signed him up for the team. This was the first time the two of us ever talked. We ended up having only one soccer practice and no games because they cancelled the season. The Wednesday before Easter, which was at the beginning of April that year, Julianne's family came to visit her at dinner. Nate saw a bunch of little blonde girls that night with Julianne and texted her later asking if they were her sisters. They, of course, were. This is how the two of us started talking. Throughout all of that Easter weekend, we texted back and forth. We decided to hangout once we were both back at school. We started hanging out and spending time together between classes at Aquinas. Near the end of the semester, Nate finally asked Julianne out officially. Because of the upcoming end of the semester, Julianne was not sure about how they would be able to hang out over the summer since Nate was going back to Howell. So, she said that she didn't know. Nate took that as a straight no and decided to stop hanging out with her. They split over the summer yet still texted every once and a while over the next 9 months or so.

Julianne went off to complete a Discipleship Training School through Youth With A Mission while Nate moved to Grand Rapids with a group of friends to work and go to school. They kept in touch and decided to hang out again when Julianne returned back to Michigan. They started hanging out every couple of weeks and started to realize that they still liked each other and wanted to pursue a relationship. In July 2011, Nate talked with Julianne and asked permission from her dad, and they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. Soon after Julianne left for Hawaii to take another class through YWAM while Nate returned home to Howell. The spent most of July and all of August apart. They visited back and forth durning September before Nate left to go to Minnesota for his DTS. They spent October apart, and Julianne came to visit Nate for a week in the first bit of November. Nate was able to come to Michigan for Thanksgiving. He returned back to the MN base and left for Peru in December. He was back in the states in February, and we were reunited again in March.

On March 8, 2012, Nate asked Julianne to marry her. He had written a cute little book the two of them: the beautiful princess Julianne was captured, and the handsome knight Nate came to her rescue. He promised to always take care of her and protect her if she said yes to a certain question. And, of course, she did. :) We are now planning a wedding for June 16, 2012.

We are very excited to see what the future has in store for us next. You can check out our "Wedding" page to read more information about the wedding and our "Missions" page to see what we are planning to do next. Thanks so very much for stopping by our site! Love, Julianne and Nate.
